About

SpillSmarts.com is a project by Chris Dunn and Emily Ingram. It was built during the 2010 Poynter College Fellowship with the goal of laying out the basic facts about the Deepwater Horizon oil spill for kids.

About Chris

Chris is a hot-of-the-presses photojournalism graduate from the Missouri School of Journalism. Half her life ago, Chris wanted to be a news anchor on television so she could inform and enthrall thousands of viewers during the evening news program. Eight years later, a New Mexico hippie put a medium-format film SLR camera into Chris’ hands and told her to have fun. Ever since, Chris has been behind the camera — not in front of it — and works to focus her passion for journalism into a pursuit of visual storytelling and reporting.

Chris is an avid fan of photography, travel, adventures and puppies.

About Emily

Emily is a born-and-raised Nebraskan and a senior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. When her childhood dream of being a professional gymnast fell through, she decided to make journalism her Plan B. Since starting at UNL five years ago, she has interned at print, TV and Web news organizations.

Emily is a fan of good design and proper grammar. But she never learned her lesson as a kid and still hates lettuce.
